In Ear Monitoring with ambience

Some people would like a closed in-ear monitoring system, others would prefer not to. They would like to have the audience in their ears. How can something like this be solved?

  • There is the so-called integrated ambience filter system in the in-ear headphones. This is usually overrated and you still don't really hear the audience. There is good ventilation and you can hear the other musicians in conversation without taking the headphones out of your ear. You can still slightly hear the stage sound from outside, but not really much.

  • Another option is to set up a room microphone and add it to the mix like an instrument via the mixing console. Here it is important to define with the sound engineer what ambience I want. Is it the ambience of the audience or the ambience on stage, as you are used to without in-ear. This is important so that the ambience matches the sound image. It is also important to tell the sound engineer when you would like to have the ambience on your ears and when not.
  • Another ambience variant is the HearMix Pro, which is an additional device with a cable that has an integrated microphone on the left and right. There are different cables so that it fits most brands of in-ear headphones. If you want to know more about it, watch the explanatory video.
